She is particularly interested in methods of alternative dispute resolution like divorce mediation and collaborative practice where she believes client self-determination results in more favorable and lasting solutions. Joan is a graduate of St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School and received a BA in American Studies from Richmond College/CUNY. She received her JD degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1981.  After college and during law school, she worked for major insurance carriers handling the investigation and settlement of litigated injury claims. Prior to entering private practice, she was an associate attorney at a Manhattan firm representing plaintiffs in personal injury lawsuits. She has volunteered with the American Cancer Society on Staten Island for over twenty-five years, having served on numerous fundraising committees and on their Board of Advisors and Honorary Board, and was a recipient of the American Cancer Society Sword of Hope Award. He is admitted to the New York State Bar, the New Jersey State Bar, and the United States District Court of New Jersey.  A lifelong Staten Islander, Steve attended St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School before going on to receive a B.A. in political science from Villanova University.  He spent two years as a clerk before pursuing his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University School of Law.  He is a member of the Richmond County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Bar of the City of New York, and the New Jersey State Bar Association. Prior to joining the firm, Steve spent two years with a general practice law firm handling all facets of litigation in general civil matters, commercial disputes, real estate transactions, other real property issues including foreclosures and administrative agency hearings, as well as New York and New Jersey estates.  Subsequent to that, he worked for two years at a firm practicing exclusively in elder law, estates, guardianships, Medicaid planning, and real property law.
